Parents and Guardians-

ISTEP+ and IREAD  2018 has arrived.  As principal of this amazing school I wanted to take a few moments to let you know how Starr Elementary is preparing your child for these important exams and what your family can do to continue to support your child.

Our instructional focus every day of the year is your child. Our teachers work hard getting to know your child as a learner and learning about the best strategies for helping students achieve to their top potential. We continually study Indiana standards in order to best meet the needs of all students in achieving our high standards. Our faculty collaborates to teach your children what they need in order to be successful on key assessments while at the same time learning important skills for overall success in the future.  Preparing students for the ISTEP+ exam is one piece of preparation for their future.

Here is how Starr has been preparing your child all year for the ISTEP+ and IREAD exams:

  • Using data, students are grouped by instructional focus during Success and throughout their day to remediate skills and focus on critical standards.
  • Teachers have been meeting with targeted students to address specific test taking strategies and provide one-on-one support.
  • Teachers plan in conjunction with their grade-level peers pulling resources and sharing lesson plans to maximize student learning.

By staying student-focused, we are preparing your child for the ISTEP+ and IREAD examswithout it becoming “just about the test” and without losing focus on what really matters - your child.

Please follow this lSTEP LINK  to  find tips for both families and students that will help them with the ISTEP and IREAD exams.  If you have questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher or call Starr Elementary at 973-3426.

Sincerely,

Karrianne Polk-Meek

Principal
