November News 2017

Dear Families,

There are a million reasons #starrshines. The month of October has flown by and we are looking forward to a WONDERFUL November!  Here are a few reasons why it is GREAT to be a Coyote:

  • Girls Basketball Camp concluded in October and was a resounding success!  A big thank you to Coach Pohlenz and his team of students that organized and sponsored this event.  RCS is is truly a COMMUNITY of learners!
  • Thank you to all our Coyote families that have made our bi-weekly popcorn sales a success.  These funds go directly back to the students at Starr!
  • Parent-teacher conferences were fantastic!  Our overall participation rate (number of families attending) was 93%. Thank you to our families for their continued support and participation in the success of their child!
  • Coyotes were on the move in October! There are too many field trips to mention....amazing behavior and experiences for all our students and teachers!

Starr Elementary is truly a community of learners, working daily to educate all students while showing empathy and understanding.  More importantly, Starr strives everyday to live its mission..."Preparing students for their future, not our past,"  by teaching 21st century skills and standards through academics, respect, and responsibility.

We will update community events and opportunities all year on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Please follow us on Twitter @esacoyotes and on Facebook at Starr Elementary.

A few general reminders:

Students need to be in class and ready to begin their daily activities at 7:50. Our dismissal time is 2:40 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We dismiss at 1:40 on Tuesday. Unless it is an absolute emergency transportation changes cannot be made after 2 on M,W,TH, F or after 1:10 on Tues. We need for all our students to be here daily and on time. Attendance is important at Starr. Please schedule all appointments  after  school hours.

The only entrance that will be accessible throughout the school day will be the front door at 301 North 19th Street. This door will be locked for security purposes. Please press the doorbell and we will let you in. All other doors will remain locked for security reasons. All visitors are to report to the office and will be asked to sign in, sign out and wear a visitor’s badge while in the building.

Breakfast will be served from 7:15-7:45.

Please make sure to complete a police background check if you are interested in doing volunteer work for Starr. This must be completed every year.

Safety is a priority at Starr.  During drop off and dismissal we ask that all parents and guardians wait outside the main doors to pick up their students and to do their goodbyes.  Starr faculty and staff will be waiting each morning to welcome your student and teachers will accompany students through dismissal each day. When we have a two-hour delay, school will start at 9:50. You can access school closings/delays by going to the Richmond Community Schools web site, listening to the radio, or watching television.

We look forward to many wonderful experiences during the month of November!
